On September 17, 2026, the Hub of Talents on Air Pollution and Climate (HTAPC), under the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), co-organized a training workshop on “Black Smoke Vehicle Inspection and Detection.” The event took place at Crystal Rooms 3–4, 3rd Floor, The Century Park Hotel, Ratchathewi District, Bangkok.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nares Chusueiwan, a faculty member at the Institute of Public Health, Suranaree University of Technology, and an expert from HTAPC. He was joined by Mrs. Naphaporn Sriphetphan, Director of the Air Quality and Environmental Impact Management Division, Sustainable Environment Office, Department of Environment, and Dr. Supat Wangwongwatana, Director of HTAPC.
The workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of environmental and sanitation personnel across all 50 district offices in Bangkok, as well as officers from the Mechanical Factory Division, Department of Finance. The goal was to equip them with proper academic knowledge, understanding, and technical skills to correctly operate black smoke measurement equipment.
Experts from the Pollution Control Department served as guest speakers, delivering lectures and demonstrations on:
- Standard values and procedures for black smoke measurement
- Techniques for detecting black-smoke-emitting vehicles and field operational protocols on roads
- Legal enforcement procedures and official orders banning the use of non-compliant vehicles
The program also featured hands-on practical training with actual vehicles to build technical proficiency and establish unified operational standards for black smoke inspection across Bangkok.
